Oceanova now supplies Cerulean Sonar in New Zealand

Oceanova is expanding its subsea toolkit: we now supply and integrate the full Cerulean Sonar range across New Zealand—covering multibeam bathymetry, imaging sonars, DVLs, ROV tracking, and practical accessories that fit neatly into Biosync/Tawhiri Deeptrekker ,USVs and ROVs. The appeal is simple: Ethernet-first hardware, modern software, sensible pricing, and a clean upgrade path from pilot projects to production fleets.

Software: SonarView ties everything together

Cerulean’s cross-platform SonarView app runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, and as a BioSync  extension. It handles device control, logging and playback for a wide set of instruments in one consistent interface. Teams can standardize their field workflow across the Surveyor multibeam, Omniscan imaging sonars, the S500 single-beam sounder, Tracker DVLs and the ROV Locator family.

Bathymetry

Surveyor 240-16 MBES
A compact 240 kHz multibeam designed for small USVs and workboats. The transmit/receive geometry delivers wide swath coverage with dense returns, bringing true multibeam mapping to light platforms without heavyweight topsides. It’s a strong fit for berth pockets, channel maintenance and bay-entrance grids.

Imaging sonars (Omniscan 450 family)

Omniscan 450FS (Forward Scan)
A forward-looking scanning sonar for ROV navigation and situational awareness, available in different depth ratings. Single-enclosure design with Ethernet + power keeps installs simple.

Omniscan 450 Compact
A tighter package for tight integrations. The enclosure streamlines cabling on small vehicles while retaining the same scanning performance.

Omniscan 450SS (Side-scan)
A side-scan configuration suited to USV transects. Order two units for simultaneous left/right coverage; SonarView treats them as a single system. A Tawhiri specific option is available for quick USV integration.

Subsea positioning and tracking

Tracker 650 (DVL)
A cost-effective Doppler Velocity Log focused on vehicle stabilisation and position-hold. It leverages the vehicle’s existing IMU to keep integration and cost down, while providing reliable velocity data for station keeping and precise manoeuvres.

ROV Locator Mk II / Mk III
An acoustic locator system for topside ranging/positioning to a vehicle-mounted unit. Mk III adds deeper rating and improvements that simplify long submergence operations. Bundles and individual components are available depending on the vehicle and mission.

Omnitrack (topside)
A networked topside module that integrates the ROV Locator into a streamlined, SonarView-friendly workflow. It simplifies setup and offers reliable long-range tracking in field conditions.

Single-beam sounder and field accessories

S500 Sounder
A compact CHIRP single-beam echosounder used as an altimeter, utility depth channel, or simple bathymetry source on USVs. Multiple interface options (Ethernet/USB/serial) make it versatile across platforms.

BaseStation Plus (network hub)
A plug-and-play topside hub that consolidates networking and telemetry, replacing multiple boxes in the field kit. It pairs well with ROV Locator/Omnitrack setups and streamlines deck cabling.

Manifold 5L Subsea Ethernet Hub
A five-port PoE subsea switch that reduces penetrators and simplifies multi-sensor rigs. Ideal when you’re combining imaging sonar, cameras, lights and navigation sensors on a small vehicle.

Cables, GPS module and mounting brackets
Cerulean offers serial/USB cables for Locator systems, a compact GPS module for topside kits, and FS/SS mounting brackets to speed installs on ROVs and USVs.

Why this matters for NZ projects

For hydrography, the Surveyor 240-16 brings real multibeam productivity to small USVs and workboats, cutting day rates for berth pockets, channels and bay entrances. For inspection and navigation, the Omniscan family gives divers and ROV pilots clear, long-range acoustic imaging with a straightforward Ethernet setup. For positioning and stabilisation, Tracker DVL and the ROV Locator/Omnitrack combination provide reliable station keeping and topside tracking without over-complication. The common thread is a modern, SonarView-based workflow that lets your team spend more time surveying and less time wiring.

Pricing and next steps

“Starting at” pricing is listed on Cerulean’s product pages and may change by configuration, shipping and lead time. We quote in NZD, advise on mounting, cabling and SonarView setup, and support integration with BlueROV/BlueBoat/USV fleets. If you’re planning a new build or an upgrade, we can recommend a complete package and timeline for your project.
