About Oceanova
Oceanova is a leading innovator in autonomous and remotely operated marine systems, specializing in the development of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs). Our mission is to advance marine research, biosecurity monitoring, hydrographic surveys, and offshore inspections through cutting-edge automation, sensor integration, and AI-powered data analysis.
We are seeking a marine engineer to lead the design, optimization, and deployment of hull forms, propulsion systems, and energy solutions for our autonomous marine platforms. This role involves working on the hydrodynamic performance, stability, and endurance of battery-electric and hybrid-powered systems, ensuring they can operate efficiently in demanding offshore environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize hull structures, propulsion, and stability systems for AUVs, ASVs, and ROVs.
- Develop hydrodynamic performance models, buoyancy control systems, and energy-efficient propulsion for long-duration missions.
- Work on battery-electric propulsion, hybrid power systems, and alternative energy integration such as solar and hydrogen.
- Integrate thrusters, waterjets, control surfaces, and dynamic positioning systems to enhance maneuverability and operational efficiency.
- Perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs and optimize structural performance.
- Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and classification society standards such as IMO, DNV, and ABS for autonomous marine systems.
- Collaborate with electrical, embedded systems, and software engineers to integrate sensors, navigation systems, and AI-driven control systems into marine platforms.
- Conduct sea trials, performance testing, and system validation in real-world conditions.
- Develop corrosion prevention and environmental protection strategies for long-term deployments in marine environments.
- Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, and deployment of new autonomous vessels and underwater systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, ocean engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in designing hull structures, propulsion systems, and hydrodynamic performance models.
- Strong knowledge of fluid dynamics, CFD simulations, and mechanical system optimization.
- Familiarity with battery-electric propulsion, fuel cells, or hybrid power solutions for marine applications.
- Understanding of marine materials, coatings, corrosion resistance, and pressure housings.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication, and system integration.
- Ability to conduct field testing, troubleshooting, and data analysis to refine system performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in AUV, ASV, or ROV design and deployment.
- Knowledge of autonomous navigation, AI-assisted control systems, and sensor fusion.
- Familiarity with marine regulatory requirements such as SOLAS and IMO.
- Experience with alternative energy sources for autonomous marine platforms.
Why Join Oceanova?
- Work on state-of-the-art autonomous marine technology with real-world applications in ocean research, biosecurity, and offshore industries.
- Be part of an innovative, fast-growing startup with opportunities for career development and leadership.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in engineering, AI, and marine sciences.
- Competitive salary, flexible work environment, and opportunities for hands-on field testing and deployments.
